I’ll Show You… Late Spring (1949)
Welcome to another episode of I’ll Show You Mine! This week Elyse is showing James Yasujiro Ozu’s ‘Late Spring’ from 1949. ‘Late Spring’ tells the simple tale of a father in Japan trying to find a suitable match for his daughter Noriko, who doesn’t want to leave home and is hesitant to agree to a marriage.
Join us as we talk about the quiet, slow pace of this movie, the deliberate and symbolic cinematography, and the emotional journey of getting to know Noriko and her father as they deal with this turning point in both of their lives.
The clip at the end is of Paul Schrader discussing Transcendental Style in Film at TIFF 2017: https://youtu.be/mFcCs8c2n6I
Our next episode will be May 28th, when James shows Elyse ‘Halo 2’ for Xbox.
Our theme song is by us! James Sparkman and Elyse Wietstock.
